Graham's Testimony

As it turns out, we are living in an upside down world, an alternate reality. ‘I was born this way’ was repeatedly told me, and that sentiment echoed all around me, from all quarters of culture and society. I had no reason to doubt it, all those around me appeared to believe it, it was effortlessly and authoritatively proclaimed by those in positions of power, medical professionals, science professionals and so on. But after a sequence of supernatural events, this dogma was about to be shaken, upended, and completely destroyed.


From the age of 8 years old, I suffered from and struggled with same sex attraction. This had a direct bearing and affect on my life, and the trajectory it took also. This inclination lead to a life of sexual promiscuity, alcohol and drug use, then into a deep spiral of life long struggles with addictions to these three vices, with homosexuality being the driving force beneath it all.


But I was born this way right?


As it turns out, No.


After a near death experience, God was about to blow the scales off my eyes and step into my life in a powerful way. That day everything changed, He opened my eyes, He showed me who I truely was, and showed me that He ALONE defines who I am, and not myself, or this Godless world.


I never knew there was a God, no one had ever sat me down and told me that this was so. Yes I saw all this religious stuff around me, and it all appeared fake and hypocritical. But a God? Really?


For the previous 5 years leading upto this revelation, I struggled horrendously with drug addictions, which fed into a lifestyle full of self abuse. God has taken many of these things from me, and placed me on a more sure foundation. Yes it is a struggle, as I move from one stage to another, God faithfully shows me yet another area of my life to work on, character and personality developments and so on.


There are so many pieces of scripture I could share, but this, along with another I’ll share at the end, have had the most profound effect on my life and journey. The promises of God I can testify to and be a witness for, God is faith and true.


Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?

Be not deceived:

neither fornicators,

nor idolaters,

nor adulterers,

nor effeminate,

nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

nor thieves,

nor covetous,

nor drunkards,

nor revilers,

nor extortioners,

shall inherit the kingdom of God.


This verse may be confronting for you, but for me, this was never about being gay, or identifying as being gay. In the deepest recesses of my heart, all I ever wanted to know is, What is the truth? This verse wasn’t targeting me or denouncing me. It was calling me, it was reaching out to me, It was God stretching forth His hand to me. The descriptors in this verse describe and cover all of us, there is not one human being on this earth that has not committed one of these transgressions. It was never about my sexual sin, but rather turning from all sin. The world will try and makes this about sexuality, but it isn’t. It’s about sin, and God wants us to recognise this and seek Him.


God goes on to declare:


And such were some of you:

but ye are washed,

but ye are sanctified,

but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus,

and by the Spirit of our God.

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭6‬:‭9‬-‭11‬ ‭


What a promise! As we all sojourn through this world, trying to rightly divide and make sense of the physical world around us. May I offer to you that which was not afforded me all those years ago, the invitation to come and meet your God, your Creator and your Sustainer. He is here with you right now, you reading this short message in this exact moment is proof positive of this fact.


And be not conformed to this world:

but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,

that ye may prove what is that good,

and acceptable,

and perfect,

will of God.
